Generating Part Drawings from STL Files

Create technical drawings with orthographic views and dimension annotations from your STL files.

Part DrawingsSTLtechnical drawingorthographicdimensions

Part Drawings generates professional technical drawings from your STL files — four orthographic views with dimension annotations, exported as A3 landscape PDFs.

Creating a Drawing

Navigate to Part Drawings in the Engineering section of the sidebar. Click New Drawing and upload an STL file. Printforge renders the model in four views:

  • Front view — looking at the model from the front
  • Side view — looking from the right side
  • Top view — looking down from above
  • Isometric view — 3D perspective view

Dimension Annotations

Each orthographic view includes dimension lines showing the part's measurements in millimetres. Width, height, and depth are annotated on the appropriate views. These measurements come directly from the STL file's geometry.

PDF Export

Click Export PDF to generate an A3 landscape PDF with a professional title block. The title block includes the drawing title, date, material, and your business name. The PDF is suitable for printing, archiving, or sharing with clients and manufacturers.

Use Cases

  • Client approval — share a drawing before printing so clients can verify dimensions
  • Quality control — measure printed parts against the drawing's specified dimensions
  • Documentation — maintain technical records of every part you produce
  • Manufacturing handoff — if scaling to injection moulding, drawings communicate specifications
