Creating a Quote with Line Items
How to create a professional quote — add line items, set markup, assign a client, and configure terms.
Quotes are the backbone of your client workflow. Printforge generates auto-numbered quotes (PF-YYYY-NNN) with professional formatting and flexible line items.
Creating from the Calculator
The fastest way to create a quote is from the calculator. After running a cost calculation, click Create Quote. This creates a new quote pre-filled with a line item containing the calculated cost, dimensions, and material details.
Creating from Scratch
Navigate to Quotes → New Quote. Select or create a client, set the expiry date (defaults to 30 days), and add line items manually. Each line item has a description, quantity, and unit price.
Line Items
Click Add Line Item to add rows. Each line item has:
- Description — what you're quoting (e.g., "Custom bracket — PLA, 45g, 3h print")
- Quantity — number of units
- Unit Price — price per unit (your cost + markup)
The subtotal and total update as you add or modify items. You can edit or delete any line item after creation.
Markup
Set a markup percentage on the quote to apply across all line items. A 50% markup on a $20 cost gives a $30 sale price. Adjust this per quote based on the job complexity, client relationship, or urgency.
Notes & Terms
Add notes visible to the client (project details, delivery expectations) and payment terms (e.g., "Payment due within 14 days of acceptance"). These appear on the PDF export.
Quote Statuses
Every quote has a status: Draft (editing), Sent (shared with client), Accepted, Rejected, or Expired (past the expiry date). Change the status from the quote detail page using the dropdown.
