Building Your Product Library

The Product Library is your local-first product catalogue. Instead of scattering product details across Shopify, spreadsheets, and your quotes, you build each product once in a single editor — title, description, images, SEO, price, and print files — then reuse it wherever you need it: pushed live to Shopify, or dropped into a quote as a line item.

Find it under Product Library in the sidebar. Building your catalogue is available on every plan; pushing to and importing from Shopify requires the Scale plan.

Creating a Product

Click New product to open the all-in-one editor. Fill in what you have:

• Title — the product name
• Description — written as plain text (a blank line between paragraphs, "- " for bullets); it's converted to formatted HTML when saved
• Material — PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, TPU, or Resin
• Status — Draft, Active (live), or Archived
• Price, SKU, and Weight (g)
• Tags — comma-separated (up to 20)

Click Save draft to create the product. It's now stored in Printforge as a "Local only" product — nothing has been sent to Shopify yet.

Writing Copy with AI

Short on words? The editor has AI copy tools (Scale plan):

• Generate — writes a title and description from scratch, and fills the SEO fields if they're empty
• Improve — polishes the title and description you already have
• Generate SEO — writes just the SEO title and meta description

The copy is tuned to sell the finished 3D-printed product, not the filament.

Adding Images

Once the product is saved, the Images section unlocks. Drop in photos (PNG, JPEG, or WebP, up to 8MB each, 10 per product). The first image is the Featured one — hover any image and click the star to make it featured, or the bin to delete it. If you add a single image, you'll get a Remove background option that cleans it up right in your browser.

SEO & Print Files

Fill in the Search engine listing section to control how the product appears in Google and Shopify: an SEO title (keep it under 60–70 characters) and a Meta description (aim for around 160 characters). Both have live counters.

In the Print files section you can attach files from your File Library. This links the product to the actual STL or G-code you print, so when an order comes in, the job shows a note telling you exactly what to print.

Pushing to Shopify

When the product is ready, click Save & publish to Shopify (or Save & push to Shopify if it's already linked). Printforge saves your changes, then:

• Creates a new Shopify product if this one has never been pushed
• Updates the existing Shopify product if it's already linked — and recreates it if it was deleted in Shopify (your local copy is the source of truth)
• Sends your images (featured first) so the Shopify listing matches

On success you'll see a confirmation with an Open in Shopify admin link. Pushing requires the write_products scope on your Shopify connection — if it's missing, Printforge tells you exactly which scope to add and to reconnect.

Importing from Shopify

Already have products in Shopify? Click Import from Shopify to pull your catalogue into the library. Products you've edited locally but not yet pushed are skipped so your unsaved changes aren't overwritten — your local edits stay the source of truth until you push them.

Sync Status

Each product card shows a sync badge so you always know where it stands:

• Local only — never pushed to Shopify
• Shopify — linked and in sync
• Not pushed — you've made local changes since the last push
• Sync error — the last push failed (the reason is shown on the card)

If a product is linked to a single-variant Shopify product, an On hand (Shopify) field appears so you can update its stock at your primary Shopify location without leaving the editor (Scale plan).

Reusing Products on Quotes

The library isn't just for Shopify — it saves you retyping products onto quotes. When building a quote, click From Library (or Add from Library). The Add from product library picker lets you search by title, SKU, or material, tick the products you want, and add them all at once.

Each selected product becomes a quote line item: the title becomes the description, the price becomes the unit price, and the weight carries across. The values are copied as a snapshot, so editing the product later won't change quotes you've already sent.

Tips

• Attach print files to every product — it turns incoming orders into clear "print this" instructions on your jobs
• Build your catalogue as drafts first, then push to Shopify once the copy and images are right
• Reuse the same products across quotes and Shopify so your pricing and descriptions stay consistent everywhere
